What trading FOREX.com costs
One standard lot of EUR/USD on FOREX.com's Standard account costs at least US$10.00 for the round turn: 1 pips of spread (US$10.00), with no commission, on the "as low as" spread the Canadian site advertises rather than a figure we measured.
| Account | A month of trading | One round turn, 1 lot |
|---|---|---|
| Standard1 pips, advertised, as low as (Canadian site, September 26, 2026) | at least US$200.00 | at least US$10.00 |
On FOREX.com's Standard account, a pip on EUR/USD is US$10.00 per standard lot, so a round turn costs the spread in pips times that, plus any commission.
Our verdict on FOREX.com
FOREX.com suits a Canadian trader who wants MetaTrader 4, MetaTrader 5 and a proprietary platform under one dealer, and who trades often enough to compare the RAW Pricing commission with the Standard spread. I recommend it to active traders and to anyone who values a dealer that publishes its own execution statistics.
The published score is 67.6 out of 100 in our global broker test, not a Canadian test, and the firm ranks third of 9 in our rated Canadian set. What limits it most for a Canadian account is cost and convenience: an inactivity fee of C$20 a month after 12 months, a 0.7% currency conversion charge, and funding by cards and wire only. Weigh those charges against how often you trade before you pick an account.
Pros
- Customer assets are held in trust at a financial institution in Canada, with Canadian insolvency laws applying
- 100% of trades on FOREX.com platforms filled in under one second, at an average speed of 0.002 seconds
- 80+ forex pairs and over 2,700 markets on the firm's own platforms
- Card deposits from $100 are typically available immediately, up to 24 hours
Cons
- Inactivity fee of C$20 (US$15) a month after 12 months with no trade and no open position (the firm's trading costs page, read September 26, 2026)
- No negative balance protection is stated, and any deficit accrues interest at prime plus 3 points (the customer agreement, s.9)
- Funding runs to Canadian-issued cards and wire transfers only, with card deposits capped at $10,000 per transaction
- The Security Agreement lets the dealer "sell, pledge, rehypothecate, assign, invest, commingle and otherwise use any Collateral it holds" (the customer agreement, s.6)

How popular is FOREX.com in Canada?
Canadians made 1,490 branded searches for FOREX.com in August 2026, placing it 4th of the 7 CIRO dealers we rate. Search interest measures how much attention FOREX.com draws and says nothing about quality, and the score above is the review verdict.

How this is measured
Google Ads reports each month how many people in Canada searched FOREX.com's brand terms, and the brokers in the card are ranked on that figure alone.
A search term counts toward FOREX.com only when the broker's own website holds the first organic Google result for it in Canada, and bare brand words that any company could own are left out.
A month-over-month change for FOREX.com prints only where the previous month reached 1,000 searches, since Google rounds smaller volumes.
Each month on the 15th, FOREX.com's figures update to the newest month Google has published, and the first-result check runs again every quarter.
Is FOREX.com safe? CIRO membership, GAIN Capital - FOREX.com Canada Ltd.
Yes, GAIN Capital - FOREX.com Canada Ltd. is an Investment Dealer listed in the CIRO dealer directory and a current CIPF member, so a Canadian retail client contracts with a dealer under Canadian rules.
CIRO registration and global licences
The CIRO dealer directory lists GAIN Capital - FOREX.com Canada Ltd. as an Investment Dealer (CIRO dealer directory, read September 26, 2026). GAIN Capital - FOREX.com Canada Ltd. states that it is registered as an investment dealer with the securities regulatory authorities in each of the provinces and territories of Canada, a derivatives dealer in Quebec, and a suitability-exempt dealer member of the Canadian Investment Regulatory Organization (CIRO), formerly IIROC. Being suitability-exempt means it will not consider a customer’s financial situation, investment knowledge, objectives, or risk tolerance (Relationship Disclosure, first paragraph). It serves all provinces and territories, with an agent for service in each. Alberta residents can open an account only as Accredited Investors: net income before tax over C$200,000 (C$300,000 with a spouse), net assets of at least C$5,000,000, or financial assets over C$1,000,000 (opening a trading account FAQ). StoneX Group Inc. is the indirect parent and sole indirect owner.
CIRO enforcement history
I checked CIRO’s enforcement database for “GAIN Capital” and for “FOREX.com”, across all proceedings active and concluded, and no decision was found in either search (CIRO enforcement database). You can run the same search yourself on CIRO’s website.
Where a Canadian client’s money is held
FOREX.com Canada’s customer assets shall be held in trust at a financial institution in Canada, and Canadian insolvency laws will apply (Disclosure of Non-Resident Status, paragraph 2). The dealer’s principal business location and registered head office is 30 Independence Blvd, Suite 300, Warren, NJ 07059, USA, and the agreement carries a Disclosure of Non-Resident Status. The agreement names no Canadian financial institution that holds client assets in trust.
Who a Canadian client contracts with
GAIN Capital - FOREX.com Canada Ltd. acts as principal and counterparty, and each contract is directly between it and the customer, with no clearinghouse or third-party guarantee (Customer Agreement opening; Products and Services). The Relationship Disclosure names related group entities, including GAIN Capital Group, LLC, GAIN Capital - FOREX.com Australia Pty Ltd., and Forex.com Japan Co., Ltd., and states that the Canadian dealer operates at arm’s length and independently of each of these related entities. CIPF’s Coverage Policy s.C.2 states that “Accounts with entities other than a CIRO Member (but including, for greater certainty, a CIRO Member’s affiliates or related organizations) are not Accounts for the purposes of this Policy” (CIPF Coverage Policy, amended July 27, 2023). None of GAIN Capital Group, LLC, GAIN Capital - FOREX.com Australia Pty Ltd. or Forex.com Japan Co., Ltd. is on CIPF’s current member list (CIPF current member list).
How to complain, and who hears it
Start with Client Services at 1-855-317-9242 or [email protected]. A complaint not resolved within 24 hours goes in writing to the Compliance Department, which acknowledges it promptly and sends a full written response within eight weeks (Complaints Handling Policy).
This page covers GAIN Capital - FOREX.com Canada Ltd., the Canadian dealer, and the FOREX.com review covers the brand worldwide.
FOREX.com client money protection and dispute scheme
CIPF sets its cap at “$1 million for all general accounts combined”, with further $1 million limits covering all registered retirement accounts combined and all RESPs combined (About CIPF coverage, Limits for Individuals, items 1 to 3). CIPF covers property a member firm holds for the client and does not return once the firm is insolvent, and it does not guarantee what that property is worth. Crypto assets are excluded.
For disputes, the firm names OBSI mediation, or the AMF in Quebec, and arbitration through ADR Chambers, or the Canadian Commercial Arbitration Centre in Quebec, with the arbitrator’s award final and binding. A regulatory complaint can also go to CIRO. These are the routes section 27 sets out (Customer Agreement s.27, Law and jurisdiction). The OBSI brochure the firm hosts states that OBSI can recommend compensation for losses up to $350,000 and that its recommendations are not binding on either you or the firm (OBSI brochure).

FOREX.com spreads and commission
Costs at FOREX.com split by account, and the account you choose changes both the spread and whether a commission applies. The two accounts below are the whole Canadian lineup.
Standard account
The Standard account charges a spread only, with no commission. The firm publishes a typical EUR/USD spread of 1.3 pips, the median spread available during the previous full calendar month, and an “as low as” figure of 1.0 pips, and the page was last updated August 31, 2026 (trade prices page, Standard spread pricing table). For you, that means one price to watch and no separate commission line on your statement.
RAW Pricing account
The RAW Pricing account charges spreads from 0.0 pips on EUR/USD plus a commission of US$7 per US$100,000 traded per side, US$0.70 per 10,000 (Canada Fee Schedule, Raw Pricing Account). At a EUR/USD price of 1.1000, the firm’s example works out to US$7.70 per side and US$15.40 round trip. No CAD commission figure is published. This account runs on the FOREX.com platforms and MT5.
What it costs to trade with FOREX.com
Beyond the spread, a Canadian account carries a small set of other charges, and I would read them before your first deposit. Share CFDs cost 1.8 US cents per share on U.S. stocks and 0.08% of consideration on UK, EU, and Asian stocks, with a minimum of 10 in the stock’s base currency (trading costs page, Commission). Commissions on stock CFD trades are waived through December 31, 2026 (margin requirements page, terms and conditions). Currency conversion takes 0.7% from the market rate on realized profit and loss, fees, and commissions that settle in a currency other than the account base currency (Canada Fee Schedule, Additional Fees).
Other fees a Canadian trader should check
The inactivity fee is C$20 (US$15) a month after 12 months with no trading activity, meaning no trade and no open position (trading costs page). The fee schedule lists a telegraphic transfer fee of 25.00 in the account’s base currency, 40.00 for an international base currency, and a stop payment cheque fee of 30.00, all of which the dealer may charge (Canada Fee Schedule). Incoming card deposits and incoming wires carry no fee. Forex rollover comes from swap points based on the interest rate differential and applies only to positions open at 5 p.m. ET, with Wednesdays typically rolled for three days to account for the weekend (trading costs page). The agreement lists a mark-up on rollovers as part of the dealer’s compensation (Customer Agreement s.11, Charges).
FOREX.com funding methods and withdrawal times
You fund a Canadian account with a Visa or Mastercard credit or debit card issued in Canada, or by wire transfer in CAD or USD. There are no cheques, no PayPal, no Western Union and no third-party deposits.
Deposit methods
Card deposits run up to $10,000 per transaction and are typically available immediately. Wire deposits have no minimum or maximum, taking 1 to 2 business days domestic and 2 to 5 days international.
Withdrawals
Card withdrawals are typically immediate and are limited to your net card deposits, up to $50,000 per transaction. Wire withdrawals take up to two business days of FOREX.com processing. Your deposited funds return to source, cards first, then wire.
FOREX.com account types and minimum deposit
The Canadian lineup has two account types, Standard with spread-only pricing and RAW Pricing with spread plus commission (Relationship Disclosure, Customer Accounts). Each is available as an individual, joint, or corporate account (opening a trading account FAQ). A demo account runs for 90 days (popular FAQs).
Minimum deposit
According to the FAQ, the minimum initial deposit is $100 and the recommended deposit is at least $2,500, with no currency named for either figure (popular FAQs).
Account currencies
Account base currencies are CAD and USD, and initial deposits are accepted only in CAD or USD (Relationship Disclosure, Customer Accounts; Trading Policies 4.2).
FOREX.com trading platforms
You can trade on the FOREX.com web trader, mobile apps and desktop platform, all proprietary, on TradingView by connecting a FOREX.com account, on MetaTrader 5 for web, mobile and desktop, and on MetaTrader 4 through an MT4 application on the account forms page. In my judgement that is a solid range for a Canadian dealer. Share CFDs trade on the proprietary platform and MetaTrader 5 only, so if U.S. or Canadian stock CFDs are your interest, that fact should steer your platform choice.
FOREX.com execution speed and slippage
In our global test round of 35 brokers on MetaTrader 4 demo accounts, FOREX.com filled limit orders in 98 ms and market orders in 88 ms; the figures are global, not a Canadian test. Demo accounts show no slippage or partial fills, so the panel measured no slippage, and I will not dress that up as more than it is.
The firm’s own execution scorecard for GAIN Capital - FOREX.com Canada Ltd. on FOREX.com platforms, May 31 to June 30, 2026, excluding MetaTrader, reports 100% of trades filled in under one second, an average speed of 0.002 seconds, 67.16% of limit orders price-improved and an average price improvement of 0.42 pips on forex limit orders. Those are figures the firm publishes, and I read them as its own account of your fills.
FOREX.com markets
The markets are forex, stock CFDs on U.S., UK, EU, and Canadian shares, index CFDs, ETFs, commodity CFDs covering energies, softs, and grains, and metals, all traded over the counter with the dealer as principal (markets to trade page). The firm lists 80+ forex pairs and over 2,700 markets on its own platforms. The Canadian markets, margin, and trade prices pages list no crypto category.
FOREX.com leverage and margin for Canadian clients
The firm states margin as percentages and no leverage ratio (margin requirements page). Its lowest forex margin requirement is 2% on USD/CAD, in both CAD and USD base accounts. EUR/USD takes a minimum margin requirement of 5% in a CAD base account and 3% in a USD base account. Index CFDs such as US SP 500 take 10%, and stock CFDs start at 30%. Tiered margin applies to larger sizes, and margin on MetaTrader could be higher. There are no margin calls in the ordinary course: positions are liquidated automatically when equity falls below the required margin, largest-loss net position first, with an optional alert at 120% (liquidation FAQ).
CIRO’s Investment Dealer and Partially Consolidated Rules set the minimum client margin for a foreign exchange position as spot risk margin plus term risk margin (s.5468(1)), with spot risk margin rates set by currency group (s.5460(1) and s.5462(1)). CIRO Rules Bulletin 25-0232, effective August 13, 2025, lists the spot risk margin rates a dealer must use: 3.00% for the euro, the pound, and the yen, and 2.00% for the U.S. dollar in a Canadian dollar base account and for the Canadian dollar in a U.S. dollar base account.
How FOREX.com compares to OANDA and CMC Markets
OANDA (Canada) Corporation ULC states “0.6 pips for typical EUR/USD order sizes” on its platforms page.
CMC Markets Canada Inc. scores 64.6 out of 100 in our global broker test, and its Standard account carries an EUR/USD minimum spread of 0.5 with no separate FX commission. In my view the choice among the three comes down to cost structure. Both rivals get the full Canadian treatment in our OANDA review for Canadian traders and our CMC Markets review for Canadian traders.

Should you open a FOREX.com account?
Yes, I would open an account with GAIN Capital - FOREX.com Canada Ltd. if I wanted MT4 or MT5 access. I would also weigh the costs carefully before you deposit, because the typical EUR/USD spread and the US-dollar-only commission quote on RAW Pricing both land in your pocket.
The limit I keep coming back to is that this dealer will not consider your financial situation, your objectives or your risk tolerance, because it is suitability exempt. In my opinion that places the whole burden of suitability on you. Before you deposit, I suggest you check the CIRO dealer directory entry for GAIN Capital - FOREX.com Canada Ltd. and read the funding and margin terms on the firm’s Canadian site.
