Our verdict on Charles Schwab

I would point traders at Charles Schwab if they want spot forex, futures, and futures options from one firm, Charles Schwab Futures and Forex LLC, with thinkorswim as the platform and no minimum deposit to open an account. What would give me pause is that the US site publishes no EUR/USD spread, so you cannot check that main cost before funding.

The global score of 51.2 out of 100 places it sixth of the six rated US firms. My recommendation stands for a trader who wants those products from one firm, and the fact that cuts against it is the one I named above.

How this is measured

Google Ads reports how many times a month people in the United States searched each broker's brand terms, and the brokers are ranked on that figure alone.

A term counts for a broker only when that broker's own website holds the first organic Google result for it in the United States; bare brand words that any company could own are left out.

A month-on-month change prints only where the previous month reached 1,000 searches, because Google rounds smaller volumes.

The figures refresh on the 15th of each month with the newest month Google has published, and the first-result check repeats every quarter.

Charles Schwab spreads and commission

We hold no EUR/USD spread on record for Charles Schwab, so this review carries no cost calculator.

I cannot give you a EUR/USD spread for Charles Schwab, because the US site publishes no spread figure for any pair. The one pricing statement the site makes is that forex trading “is commission-free and trade costs are reflected in the bid-ask spread.” That is the whole pricing picture the US site gives you, and the commission row in the costs section below prints it.

What it costs to trade with Charles Schwab

What a trade costs here is the spread, as the spreads section above explains in the site’s own terms, and the commission row below prints the site’s statement that there is none.

Commission: none; cost in the bid-ask spread (Broker's US site, read September 23, 2026)

Other fees a US trader should check

Fees beyond the spread are for you to check on the US site before trading.

Charles Schwab funding methods and withdrawals

The funding route row below names the methods the US site gives for adding money to an account. I would confirm the one you plan to use before you open.

Funding route: ACH, wire transfer, check (Broker's US site, read September 23, 2026)

Charles Schwab account types and minimum deposit

The account types row below lists what the US site names, and I would check that your own structure is on that list before you start the application. The minimum deposit prints in the facts above. The US site names no base currency for the account and states no forex tax reporting.

Account types on the US site: individual, joint, sole proprietor, partnership, LLC, corporate, trust (Broker's US site, read September 23, 2026)

Charles Schwab trading platforms

Trading forex at Schwab is all done on thinkorswim, the site states, and the platforms row in the markets table below lists the three forms it takes: thinkorswim desktop, thinkorswim web, and thinkorswim mobile.

Charles Schwab execution speed and slippage

Our global panel holds no fill time and no rank for Charles Schwab Futures and Forex LLC, so I state no speed figure here.

Charles Schwab markets and currency pairs

The product table below shows what the US site offers, with the site’s statement of access to over 65 currency pairs as the one figure it gives. CFDs are not stated on the US pages. The platforms row in the same table carries the thinkorswim forms you would trade on.

Charles Schwab leverage and margin for US clients

The US pages read September 23, 2026 state no forex security deposit for Charles Schwab, so I cannot give you the firm’s own margin requirement. What I can give you is the rule that applies to it: 17 CFR 5.9(a)(1) requires each futures commission merchant engaging in retail forex to collect a minimum security deposit of 2% of the notional value of the transaction for major currency pairs (50:1, our arithmetic) and 5% for all other pairs (20:1, our arithmetic).

The same US pages state no FIFO policy and no hedging policy for client positions. NFA Compliance Rule 2-43(b) provides that Forex Dealer Members may not carry offsetting positions in a customer account but must offset them on a first-in, first-out basis, with an option, at your request, to offset same-size transactions against the oldest transaction of that size.

Charles Schwab vs Interactive Brokers and Trading.com

On pricing, Interactive Brokers’ US site states a commission of 0.08 to 0.20 bps times trade size, while Trading.com’s US site states 1.2 pips on average on its T1 account, with no commission. For Charles Schwab’s own pricing, see the spreads section above.

On our global score, the same basis for all three, Interactive Brokers sits fourth of the six rated US firms at 62.3 out of 100 and Trading.com fifth at 53.5 out of 100.

Should you open an account with Charles Schwab?

Yes, if you want spot forex alongside futures and futures options from Charles Schwab Futures and Forex LLC, and you accept that no EUR/USD spread is published on the US site.

Before depositing, I would read the firm’s profile on NFA BASIC under its ID and the account terms on the site itself, including the fee schedule and the product minimums the site says apply to specific products. I would also check the statement the site makes about forex account protection, and confirm the funding route before any money moves.
