Forex Trading Popularity By Region
This page ranks countries two ways: by where foreign exchange is traded, using turnover figures from the Bank for International Settlements (BIS) covering April 2025, and by where people search for forex, using our own count. Neither ranking counts traders. If you want the size of the whole market, our Forex Trading Statistics page has it.
With markets that literally never close and ever more sophisticated trading tools available, forex trading sits at the intersection between finance, technology, and globalization in a way that few other asset classes can claim.
Some countries, however, seem to have a higher population of active traders, while others show high levels of interest, but lower overall trading volumes. To better understand the global interest in forex and forex trading, we reviewed the data and arrived at some intriguing insights.
Which Country Searches Most For Forex?
The United States records the highest number of forex searches, at 84,400. Total forex searches by country are measured, not trader counts. When adjusted for population, Jamaica leads, with 2,290 searches representing 0.08% of its population.

Highest Daily Turnover Forex Trade
Who’s trading the most forex every day?
The country trading the most forex is the United Kingdom, at US$4.7 trillion a day in April 2025, according to the Bank for International Settlements (BIS) final 2025 survey figures, with the United States second at US$2.3 trillion.
Where These Figures Come From
The table shows average daily turnover in April 2025 across all foreign exchange instruments, by country, from the final figures of the BIS 2025 Triennial Central Bank Survey, released in June 2026. Because the BIS net-gross basis removes only local double counting between dealers, the country figures cannot be added together, and you will find no global total on this page.
Top Forex Trading Countries By Daily Turnover
| Rank | Country | Average daily turnover, April 2025 | April 2022 |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | United Kingdom | US$4.7 trillion | US$3.7 trillion |
| 2 | United States | US$2.3 trillion | US$1.9 trillion |
| 3 | Singapore | US$1.5 trillion | US$929 billion |
| 4 | Hong Kong | US$883 billion | US$694 billion |
| 5 | Japan | US$440 billion | US$433 billion |
| 6 | Germany | US$386 billion | US$184 billion |
| 7 | Switzerland | US$370 billion | US$349 billion |
| 8 | France | US$242 billion | US$214 billion |
| 9 | China | US$235 billion | US$153 billion |
| 10 | Canada | US$233 billion | US$172 billion |
The United Kingdom is up from US$3.7 trillion in April 2022, the United States from US$1.9 trillion, and Singapore from US$929 billion. Germany has more than doubled, from US$184 billion to US$386 billion.
Conclusion
The United Kingdom leads on average daily turnover at US$4.7 trillion in April 2025, with the United States second at US$2.3 trillion and Singapore third at US$1.5 trillion, on the BIS final figures. Hong Kong is fourth at US$883 billion and Japan fifth at US$440 billion. Turnover shows where reporting dealers book foreign exchange trades, rather than how many people trade: in the United Kingdom, trades with non-financial customers were US$82 billion of the US$4.7 trillion. On searches per 10,000 people, Jamaica and Singapore lead at 8, with Cyprus and South Africa at 6, ahead of the United Kingdom at 5 and the United States at 3. I would read the two tables as answers to two different questions, because the United States records the most forex searches at 84,400 while the United Kingdom tops the turnover table, and neither table counts traders.
Our Methodology
We reviewed our own internal data to identify the countries with the highest number of CompareForexBrokers.com visitors. Within that sample, we looked at search volume for popular forex-related keywords over the past twelve months. Our data is correct as of September 1, 2026.
The turnover figures come from the Bank for International Settlements (BIS) 2025 Triennial Central Bank Survey, final results released in June 2026. They are taken from Table 19, average daily turnover in April 2025 on the BIS net-gross basis, read on September 28, 2026.
We calculated the percentage of people in a given country performing forex-related searches against the overall population to find the number of CompareForexBrokers.com visitors and related searches per capita. Next, we normalized this number per 10,000 people.
Finally, we ranked each country on the basis of forex engagement and forex quantities traded.
