Why We Recommend Eightcap

Eightcap earns a rating of 91.8 on our review, and I recommend it to traders who want tight raw pricing on MT4 with a broker that also covers other platforms. The Raw account suits cost-focused MT4 users, while the Standard account suits beginners who prefer one simple spread. I would send active traders here.

The main trade-off is the US$3.50 per side (US$7 round turn) commission on the Raw account, which you pay on top of the spread. There is also a US$100 minimum deposit, and US residents cannot open an account.

Pros & cons
  • Raw spreads from 0.0 pips
  • Nearly 100 crypto CFDs
  • MT4, MT5 and TradingView
  • US$100 minimum deposit
  • No US residents
  • Commission on Raw account

Raw And Standard Accounts On MT4

Eightcap advertises Raw account EUR/USD spreads from 0.0 pips, which is a minimum rather than an average, so your actual spread will move with the market. The Standard account has an advertised spread of 1.0 pip on EUR/USD with no commission. If you trade small volumes, the simpler Standard pricing may cost you less overall than paying commission on every lot.

Crypto CFDs Alongside Forex

If you want crypto exposure alongside forex, Eightcap offers CFDs on nearly 100 coins. You also get Capitalise.ai, a tool that lets you automate strategies without writing code. For a trader who builds rules-based systems on MT4, that combination means building and running automated strategies without leaving the broker's ecosystem.

Why We Recommend OANDA

OANDA holds a rating of 88.3 in our review, and I recommend it to traders who put trust first. It is the only broker of the eight with a full trust score of 10 of 10 in that category, and it accepts US residents through its US entity. If you want a heavily regulated market maker, this is where I would start.

The trade-off is pricing. OANDA uses spread-only pricing on MT4, with an advertised average EUR/USD spread of 1.06 pips, so cost-focused traders may find cheaper raw accounts elsewhere on this page.

Pros & cons
  • Full 10 of 10 trust score
  • No minimum deposit
  • Accepts US residents
  • Spread-only pricing on MT4
  • Average EUR/USD 1.06 pips
  • No MT5 platform
Broker Details

The Only Full Trust Score Of The Eight

OANDA is regulated by the CFTC and NFA in the United States, along with the FCA, ASIC, MAS, JFSA, KNF and FSC-BVI. The entity that opens your account depends on where you live, so check the entity name in the account agreement before funding it. In practice, the regulator and any compensation scheme covering the funds are set by that entity, not by the brand name.

OANDA's MT4 Add-On Tools

OANDA adds a premium tools package to MT4 with 28 additional plugins and technical indicators. If you like MT4's charting but want more analysis options without switching platforms, this package suits you. In my opinion it is a good fit for traders who rely on indicator-heavy strategies and want everything inside one terminal.

Why We Recommend Fusion Markets

Fusion Markets carries a rating of 85, and I recommend it to traders for whom commission cost is the deciding factor. Its Zero account charges US$2.25 per side (US$4.50 round turn) per standard lot, the lowest commission of the eight brokers here. If you trade high volumes on MT4, that saving compounds quickly.

The trade-off is trust. Our trust category score for Fusion Markets is 5 of 10, and copy trading through DupliTrade is only available to clients of its offshore entity, regulated by the VFSC or FSA Seychelles. There is no US access.

Pros & cons
  • Lowest commission of the eight
  • No minimum deposit
  • Four platforms including MT4
  • Trust score of 5 of 10
  • No US residents
  • DupliTrade on offshore entity only

Lowest Advertised Commission Of The Eight

The Zero account has an average EUR/USD spread of 0.03 pips, which is our calculation from the hourly averages Fusion Markets publishes on its own spread tool between 27 August and 25 September 2026. Add the US$2.25 per side commission and you get a very low all-in cost per lot. The Classic account is commission free with an advertised EUR/USD spread of 0.83 pips, which suits lower-volume traders who prefer one simple cost.

Copy Trading Through DupliTrade

Copy trading runs through DupliTrade rather than the MetaTrader Signals service. The catch for you is access: it is available only to clients of the offshore entity, regulated by the VFSC or FSA Seychelles, which typically allows higher leverage but offers less protection than the ASIC-regulated entity. If copy trading is your main goal, weigh that trade-off before you choose your entity.

Why We Recommend BlackBull Markets

BlackBull Markets holds a rating of 84.5, and I recommend it to traders who want platform choice. Beyond MT4 you get MT5, cTrader, TradingView and BlackBull CopyTrader, so you can spread your workflow across platforms as your needs change. Our trading experience score for it is 10 of 10.

The trade-off is trust. Our trust score is 5 of 10, its licences are with the FMA in New Zealand and FSA Seychelles, and it does not accept US residents. The advertised leverage of up to 500:1 depends entirely on which entity holds your account.

Pros & cons
  • Four platforms plus copy trading
  • No minimum deposit on two accounts
  • ECN Prime from 0.1 pips
  • Trust score of 5 of 10
  • No US residents
  • Leverage capped by entity
Broker Details

Platform Choice Beyond MT4

BlackBull advertises its ECN Prime account EUR/USD spread at 0.1 pips with a commission of US$3.00 per side (US$6 round turn). The ECN Standard and Prime+ accounts have no minimum deposit, read from blackbull.com on 15 September 2026. A small starting balance is therefore enough to try the platforms before committing more capital.

Leverage Depends On The Entity

The leverage BlackBull advertises is up to 500:1, but the cap that applies to you is set by the regulator of the entity that holds your account. Offshore entities usually allow higher leverage and offer less protection. Before you assume the advertised figure, check your account agreement for the entity name and the leverage it permits.

Why We Recommend FP Markets

FP Markets earns a rating of 78.4, and I recommend it to traders who want raw pricing with a broad licence footprint. Its Raw account advertises EUR/USD at 0.18 pips with a US$3.00 per side (US$6 round turn) commission, and our trading costs score for it is 9 of 10. If low costs matter most to you, put it on your shortlist.

The trade-off is the US$100 minimum deposit and no US access. The Standard account's advertised 1.28 pip spread is also wider than some commission-free accounts on this page.

Pros & cons
  • Raw account from 0.18 pips
  • Licences across five regulators
  • Autochartist trade ideas included
  • US$100 minimum deposit
  • No US residents
  • Standard spread 1.28 pips
Broker Details

Raw Account Costs

The Raw account advertises EUR/USD at 0.18 pips plus US$3.00 per side commission, which suits active traders who can absorb a fixed cost per lot. The Standard account is commission free at an advertised 1.28 pips, which suits beginners who want one visible cost. Picking between them comes down to your volume: the more lots you trade, the more the Raw account pays off.

Autochartist Trade Ideas

FP Markets includes Autochartist, which scans forex, metals, indices, commodities and crypto for real-time trade ideas. If you trade from signals rather than building your own setups, this gives a stream of ideas to review inside the workflow. The practical benefit is skipping a manual hunt for setups across every market followed.

Why We Recommend FOREX.com

FOREX.com carries a rating of 67.6, and I recommend it to traders who want a market maker with licences in several major markets. It accepts US residents through its US entity, and our education category score for it is 9 of 10. Traders who are starting out and want structured learning alongside MT4 fit well here.

The trade-off is cost at the raw end. The RAW account charges US$5.00 per side per 100,000 units, read from forex.com on 27 September 2026, and the Standard account advertises EUR/USD at 1.2 pips, read on 4 September 2026.

Pros & cons
  • Accepts US residents
  • Licences in several major markets
  • Education score of 9 of 10
  • US$100 minimum deposit
  • Standard spread 1.2 pips
  • RAW commission US$5.00 per side

Standard And RAW Pricing

The Standard account advertises EUR/USD at 1.2 pips with no commission, which suits casual traders who want predictable costs. The RAW account cuts the spread in exchange for a US$5.00 per side commission per 100,000 units. If you trade less than a few lots a month, I would stay on Standard and keep the pricing simple.

Licences In Several Major Markets

FOREX.com is regulated by the CFTC and NFA in the United States, along with the FCA, ASIC, CySEC, MAS, JFSA and CIMA. The entity you land with depends on where you live, so the protections and leverage available to you are set by that entity. Check the entity name in your account agreement before you fund, especially if compensation coverage matters to you.

Why We Recommend CMC Markets

CMC Markets holds a rating of 64.6, and I recommend it to traders who value market range and education. Our scores give it 10 of 10 for range of markets and 10 of 10 for education, with trust at 9 of 10. That combination suits anyone who wants one broker covering many asset classes.

The trade-off is cost clarity and access: the advertised Standard account EUR/USD spread starts from 0.5 pips, a minimum rather than an average, so your actual spread will often be wider. CMC also does not accept US residents.

Pros & cons
  • Range of markets 10 of 10
  • Education score 10 of 10
  • No minimum deposit
  • No US residents
  • Standard spread from 0.5 pips
  • FX Active commission US$2.50 per side
Broker Details

The FX Active Account

The FX Active account charges US$2.50 per side (US$5 round turn) commission on selected currency pairs in exchange for tighter spreads. If you trade those pairs often, the commission can be cheaper than the wider Standard spreads. If your pairs are outside the selection, the Standard account with its advertised from 0.5 pip spread and no commission is the better fit.

A Wide Range Of Markets

CMC is regulated by ASIC, the FCA, BaFin, MAS, the FMA in New Zealand, the BMA in Bermuda and others. That spread of licences means the entity you get depends on your country of residence, and US residents are not accepted. Whatever the country, the practical step is the same as with every broker here: confirm the entity and its regulator in the account agreement before depositing.

Why We Recommend AvaTrade

AvaTrade earns a rating of 64.5, and I recommend it to traders who want predictable costs. Retail accounts use fixed spreads with no commission, with EUR/USD advertised at 0.8 pips. If you need to know your cost before you enter a trade, fixed spreads give you that certainty.

The trade-off is flexibility. Fixed spreads do not widen with normal market moves the way variable spreads do, though AvaTrade may still adjust them in extreme conditions, and US residents cannot open an account. Our range of markets score is 8.5 of 10.

Pros & cons
  • Fixed spreads, no commission

  • MT4, MT5 and mobile apps
  • US$100 minimum deposit
  • No US residents
  • Range of markets 8.5 of 10

Fixed Spreads On MT4

AvaTrade advertises its EUR/USD fixed spread at 0.8 pips with no commission on retail accounts. Fixed spreads do not widen with normal market moves the way variable spreads do, though a fixed-spread broker may still adjust them in extreme conditions. The cost per trade is therefore known in advance, which helps anyone budgeting trading costs precisely.

AvaOptions For Options Trading

Beyond MT4 and MT5, AvaTrade offers AvaTradeGo for mobile and AvaOptions, an options platform for forex and some metals. If you want to trade options alongside your MT4 positions, you can do it under one broker rather than opening a second account elsewhere. The US$100 minimum deposit is modest, but check that the entity you join covers the products you want.

How The Eight MT4 Brokers Compare

The broker that suits a trader depends on what they trade for. If cost is the priority, I would point to Fusion Markets, which charges US$2.25 per side on its Zero account, the lowest commission of the eight, and whose published hourly averages we worked into a 0.03 pip average raw EUR/USD spread. If trust and regulatory depth matter more, OANDA holds licences from the CFTC and NFA in the United States, the FCA, ASIC, MAS and others, and it is the only broker on this page with a full trust score in our rating. US residents have a narrower choice, because US law requires a CFTC-registered, NFA-member broker; of these eight, OANDA and FOREX.com accept US residents through their US entities.

Traders who want several platforms can look at BlackBull Markets, FP Markets and Fusion Markets, which each offer MT4, MT5, cTrader and TradingView, so moving between them does not mean changing brokers. Crypto CFD traders should look at Eightcap, which offers nearly 100 coins, and more options sit on our list of crypto CFD brokers. If fixed spreads appeal, AvaTrade uses them on its retail accounts, which means the spread will not widen with normal market moves the way a variable spread does. Once the type of trader is clear, the next question is what trading will actually cost.

Which MT4 broker has the lowest advertised costs?

Fusion Markets has the lowest advertised commission of the eight at US$2.25 per side, or US$4.50 round turn per standard lot. Its Zero account also carries the lowest average raw EUR/USD spread, 0.03 pips, which is our calculation from the hourly averages Fusion Markets publishes on its own spread tool between 27 August and 25 September 2026. That figure comes from the broker’s published numbers, not from anything we captured ourselves. Put the two together and the all-in cost on a standard lot of EUR/USD is 0.03 pips plus US$4.50 round turn.

Eightcap’s raw account advertises “from 0.0 pips”, and that is a minimum, not an average, so it does not compare like for like with Fusion’s 0.03 pip average. BlackBull Markets advertises 0.1 pips on its ECN Prime account with a US$3.00 per side commission, and FP Markets advertises 0.18 pips on its Raw account at the same US$3.00 per side. For a wider view, we maintain brokers ranked by their advertised average spread and a separate list of low-commission brokers. Costs are only part of the picture, though, so it helps to know what an MT4 broker actually is.

What Is A MetaTrader 4 Broker?

MetaTrader 4 is a trading platform made by MetaQuotes Software and released in 2005. It is not a broker. You download the platform from a broker and log in through that broker, which executes your orders and sets your spreads and commissions. MetaQuotes was founded by Renat Fatkhullin, and the first MetaTrader appeared in 2002.

The platform itself is free to download. The costs you pay are the broker’s spreads, commissions and any account fees, not a charge for the software. That is why the choice of broker matters more than the choice between platform versions.

Why MT4 Is So Widely Used

MT4 earned its reach through a chart-focused layout that forex traders find quick to work in. You get 30 built-in technical indicators, 31 graphical objects and 9 timeframes, plus 4 pending order types and hedging, which many retail traders want when running multiple positions on one pair. It runs on Windows, macOS, Linux, iOS and Android, and demo accounts are widely offered, so you can try it before you fund anything.

Is MT4 good for beginners?

Yes, MT4 suits beginners well. The single-screen layout keeps your charts, order window and account summary in one place, and the 30 built-in indicators mean you can start analysing without installing anything extra. Because demo accounts are widely offered, you can open a demo account with any of these brokers and learn the platform with no money at risk, which is how I suggest every new trader starts.

The main thing to understand early is that the platform is only half the equation. Your costs, your leverage and your protections all come from the broker and the entity that holds your account, so spend as much time choosing the broker as learning the software.

Does MT4 support automated trading?

Yes, MT4 supports automated trading through Expert Advisors, or EAs, which are programs written in the platform’s language, MQL4. You can also build custom indicators in MQL4, and the built-in strategy tester lets you backtest an EA, though it is single-threaded, so large backtests take their time. If you want to explore ready-made systems, see our guide to forex trading robots. In my opinion the ecosystem of EAs is the single biggest reason MT4 has survived so long.

Can you copy trade with MT4?

Yes, you can copy trade on MT4 in two main ways. The MetaTrader Signals service lets you follow a signal provider for a fee, and the trades copy into your platform automatically. Third-party services such as DupliTrade also connect to MT4 accounts.

Broker support varies, so check before you sign up. Fusion Markets offers copy trading through DupliTrade, though only to clients of its offshore entity regulated by the VFSC or the FSA in Seychelles. For a wider view of providers, see our guides to forex signals and copy trading platforms. However you copy trades, remember that the provider’s past performance is no promise about your results.

How do I open an account with an MT4 broker?

Opening an account with an MT4 broker is a matter of having your identification documents ready and following a few steps.

  • Check which entity and regulator will hold your account where you live, because this decides your protections and any compensation scheme that covers you.
  • Choose your account type, such as a raw account with a commission or a standard account with spread-only pricing.
  • Submit your application with proof of identity and proof of address, and wait for verification.
  • Fund the account using a method the broker supports, noting any minimum deposit, which ranges from US$0 to US$100 among these eight.
  • Download MT4 from your broker or from MetaQuotes, and log in with the credentials your broker sends you.
  • Start on a demo login or a small live position until you are comfortable with the platform.

What is the difference between MT4 and MT5?

The core difference between MT4 and MT5 is scope: MT4 was built around forex and CFDs, while MT5 is a multi-asset platform with more tools and access to exchange-traded markets where the broker offers them. MT5 carries 38 indicators, 44 graphical objects, 21 timeframes and 6 pending order types, against MT4’s 30, 31, 9 and 4. It also adds depth of market, a built-in economic calendar, partial fills, and netting as well as hedging.

Which one suits you depends on what you trade. If you scalp or run EAs on forex pairs, MT4 is the natural home: it was built around forex and CFDs, and its MQL4 language is what the Expert Advisors you would run are written in. If you trade share CFDs or want a calendar and depth of market inside the platform, MT5 is the better fit, and our MT4 vs MT5 comparison goes through the differences in detail.

How do you check an MT4 broker’s regulation?

The entity that opens your account decides the regulator and any compensation scheme that covers you, and that depends on where you live. The brokers on this page hold licences from regulators such as the CFTC and NFA in the United States, the FCA in the United Kingdom, ASIC in Australia, CySEC in Cyprus, MAS in Singapore and the FMA in New Zealand, plus offshore regulators such as the FSA in Seychelles, the VFSC and the SCB. Offshore entities usually allow higher leverage and offer less protection, so check the entity name in the account agreement before funding anything. BlackBull Markets, for example, advertises leverage up to 500:1, but the cap that applies is set by the regulator of the entity that holds the account.

US residents can only use CFTC-registered, NFA-member brokers, and of these eight, OANDA and FOREX.com accept US residents. My advice is to verify the licence on the regulator’s public register before depositing. If a page written for a specific country would help, we maintain lists of US MT4 brokers, Canadian MT4 brokers, Singapore MT4 brokers and Malaysian MT4 brokers. With regulation sorted, the questions below cover the rest of what an MT4 broker involves.

  • USA Brokers

FAQs

Is MetaTrader 4 A Broker?
No, MetaTrader 4 is not a broker. It is a trading platform made by MetaQuotes Software and released in 2005. You download MT4 from a broker and log in through that broker, which holds your money, executes your orders and sets your spreads and commissions. When you open an MT4 account, you are really opening a brokerage account and then using MT4 as the software in front of it.
Who Created MetaTrader 4?
MetaTrader 4 was created by MetaQuotes Software, a company founded by Renat Fatkhullin. The first MetaTrader platform appeared in 2002, and MT4 followed in 2005. The same company also builds MetaTrader 5, its newer multi-asset platform. MetaQuotes supplies the software to brokers, which then provide it to their clients when they open an account.
Is MT4 Free To Use?
Yes, MT4 is free to use. You download it at no charge, and the costs you pay are the broker's spreads, commissions and any account fees on your account, not a fee for the software itself. Demo accounts are also widely offered at no cost, so you can learn the platform without funding anything. I would still compare broker costs carefully, because those, not the platform, are what you actually pay for.
Is MetaTrader 4 Safe?
Yes, MetaTrader 4 is safe to use, provided you download it from your broker or from MetaQuotes so you know the software is genuine. The bigger safety question is the broker behind it. The entity that opens your account decides the regulator and any compensation scheme that covers you, so check the entity name in your account agreement and verify the licence on the regulator's public register before you deposit.
Can You Scalp With MT4?
Yes, you can scalp with MT4. The platform itself places no obstacle in your way, and its chart-focused layout and pending order types suit short-horizon trading. Whether scalping works for you depends on the broker's terms and costs, not on the platform, so compare advertised spreads, commissions and any scalping restrictions in the broker's terms before you choose. Tight advertised costs matter most when you are opening and closing positions within minutes.
Is MT4 Only For Forex Trading?
No, MT4 is not only for forex trading. It trades CFDs on forex, indices, commodities and, at some brokers, cryptocurrencies. What it is not built for is buying and holding shares, because it was designed around forex and CFDs rather than exchange-traded ownership. If you want share trading or a wider multi-asset scope, MT5 or another platform may suit you better.
Which MT4 Broker Has The Lowest Commission?
Fusion Markets has the lowest commission of the eight brokers on this page, at US$2.25 per side, or US$4.50 round turn per standard lot on its Zero account. Its Zero account also carries a 0.03 pip average raw EUR/USD spread, which is our calculation from the hourly averages Fusion Markets publishes on its own spread tool. That combination makes it the strongest cost option here for raw-account traders.
