Our verdict on UOB Kay Hian
This firm suits a Singapore trader who wants a Capital Markets Services licensee offering leveraged foreign exchange alongside equity and index CFDs, and who accepts checking costs themselves. Its UTRADE platforms, advertised EUR/USD pricing and local funding routes including PayNow with no service fee cover the practical side of trading from Singapore. What gives me pause is the 4 July 2025 composition penalty of S$2.85 million MAS imposed on UOB Kay Hian Private Limited for AML-related breaches.
The rating on this page is a desk-based assessment of the firm's published Singapore information and the MAS Financial Institutions Directory, through the site's eight published categories. Six of the eight categories carry a rating, and Trading Costs and Trading Experience are blank. Less than half of each blank category could be read from that published information. Before depositing, check the licence details on the MAS Financial Institutions Directory and the costs on the firm's UTRADE pages.

Is UOB Kay Hian safe? MAS licence, UOB Kay Hian Private Limited
Yes, UOB Kay Hian Private Limited is a Capital Markets Services Licensee and Exempt Financial Adviser on the MAS Financial Institutions Directory, which we read on 24 September 2026 from a Singapore connection. That entity is who you contract with when you trade its LFX product. United Overseas Bank Limited is a separate bank, not UOB Kay Hian Private Limited, so keep the two distinct when you read MAS releases that name both.

Accredited investors
The firm publishes declaration forms for accredited and expert investor status, for individual and joint accounts, as its Singapore site states.
UOB Kay Hian trading platforms
The firm’s two FX platforms are UTRADE MT4 and UTRADE Delta, and it publishes a help guide for each on its Singapore site. If you have traded on MT4 before, the MT4 guide is where I would start.
UOB Kay Hian execution speed and slippage
Our global execution panel holds no fill time for this Singapore entity. I would ask the firm for its own figures before I funded an account, and if execution matters to your strategy, my advice is to get those numbers in writing before you commit anything.
UOB Kay Hian markets
The firm’s FX product is LFX, which it states stands for Leveraged Foreign Exchange, an over-the-counter spot product. The firm states that all LFX prices quoted are based on the spot market, which has a settlement on T+2. Through UTRADE Delta, the firm also offers CFDs on equities and indices, as its account pages state. What I look for here is the T+2 settlement statement, because it tells you plainly what kind of product LFX is. In my view, a firm that prints its settlement basis this openly makes your product-choice work easier.

The rule every MAS licensee shares is in Table 18 of the Fourth Schedule to the Securities and Futures (Financial and Margin Requirements for Holders of Capital Markets Services Licences) Regulations: minimum margin of 5% for a retail customer (20:1, our arithmetic) and 2% for an accredited, expert or institutional investor. Confirm with the firm which margin applies to your account before you trade.
Margin or leverage, as the firm states it: EUR/USD margin 5%; worked example (Firm's Singapore site, read 24 September 2026)
Margin or leverage, as the firm states it: leverage 20:1 (Firm's Singapore site, read 24 September 2026)
How UOB Kay Hian compares with OCBC Securities and Maybank Securities
OCBC Securities Private Limited states an initial deposit of S$1,000 for local residents, S$5,000 for foreigners and S$100,000 for corporates for a leveraged forex account, on its iOCBC leveraged forex account page, and offers spot FX on margin through its iOCBCfx and FIX API platforms. I would check where you sit on that deposit ladder before you weigh it against what UOB Kay Hian states.
Maybank Securities Pte. Ltd. prints 1.0 pips for EUR/USD in the spread table on its forex product page, with no basis stated, and 1.3 pips under “normal market conditions” on its pricing overview page: two pages, two figures. It also states no brokerage fees on FX, no minimum sum requirement to open a live account, and Currenex for Maybank Forex. My approach to two figures with no stated basis is to treat neither as settled. In my view, you should set both beside what UOB Kay Hian advertises and weigh them yourself.
Should you open an account with UOB Kay Hian?
Yes, if you want leveraged foreign exchange from UOB Kay Hian Private Limited, a Capital Markets Services Licensee whose UTRADE platforms carry its LFX spot product. I would only go further after reading the actions and the disclosures myself.
Weigh the MAS actions in the trust section, and the firm’s own answer that you can lose more than you initially deposited, before you commit. My advice is to do that reading first, then check the entity’s entry on the MAS Financial Institutions Directory and the current account terms on its Singapore site before you deposit anything.
