What Are The Best cTrader Brokers?

cTrader is available through brokers including Pepperstone and IC Markets. Pepperstone's raw account advertises an average EUR/USD spread of 0.1 pips. The broker is regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA). The FxPro VIP program on cTrader suits traders who trade at least $10,000,000 in notional value per month, while casual traders may find discounts on raw accounts less relevant. Our overall rating orders these brokers, highest first. IC Markets and GO Markets publish raw-account EUR/USD averages of 0.02 and 0.2 pips respectively. Compare the cTrader brokers side by side before you choose a raw account.

Why We Recommend Pepperstone

We liked Pepperstone and firmly believe it’s the top cTrader choice for traders in the UAE. Its fast execution speeds are a real game-changer, giving you the edge you need in the fast-paced world of forex trading. On top of that, Pepperstone offers a wide array of platforms, not just cTrader, providing flexibility for those who like to switch things up. The commissions are also notably low when you’re using the cTrader platform.

79.6% of retail investor accounts lose money when trading spread bets and CFDs with this provider.

Pros & cons
  • cTrader with no dealing desk
  • Fast execution speeds
  • Good range of products
  • Does not offer guaranteed stop-loss orders
  • Outdated educational resources
  • Limited demo account to 60 days

Pepperstone gives you the choice of how you want to pay even on cTrader, either by spread-only (Standard) or through a tighter spreads and commission (Razor) account. Typically, cTrader brokers only offer commission-based accounts, so we were surprised (and impressed) by Pepperstone’s flexibility in accommodating how you want to trade.

The broker’s trading costs are decent too on both accounts. The Standard account averaged 1.1 pips on EUR/USD with no commissions, the lowest spread available for a Standard account on cTrader.

To get a better comparison with other cTrader brokers, we tasked our analyst, Ross Collins, to find the average currency pair spreads for 15 brokers. Based on Ross’ findings, he found that Pepperstone had an average spread of 0.19 pips on EUR/USD, which is the lowest for a cTrader broker.

The commissions are low compared to other cTrader brokers, at just $3.00 per lot traded. Interestingly, the cTrader commission is lower than the broker’s standard Razor account commission of $3.50 per lot traded, so you’ll get a good deal here.

Pepperstone also helps maximise your execution speed by using similar execution models for each account. We found that Pepperstone used an STP model with the Standard account, while the Razor account took advantage of the ECN model. Both execution models work well because the broker doesn’t sit in the middle of your trades, which keeps cTrader execution speeds fast.

In fact, our analyst tested Pepperstone’s execution speeds and found them to be among the fastest cTrader brokers. This speed helps reduce trading lag and price slippage, which could cost you money. When comparing limit and market orders, Pepperstone secured third place overall, a strong result among the cTrader brokers we tested.

The average execution speed was 77ms for limit orders and 100ms for market orders, both very fast for executing your trades (and stop-loss/take-profit orders), which is why we recommend Pepperstone.

Pepperstone has a decent selection of markets to trade, enabling you to take advantage of low costs and fast execution speeds across multiple assets. We found the broker offered 94 FX pairs, 1,000+ share CFDs, 24 indices, and 33 commodity markets covering all the major products, such as gold, S&P 500, and EUR/USD.

We also had a pleasant account opening experience with Pepperstone, which gave us a good impression that the broker’s services are well run. In our testing, we scored the broker 15/15 for the experience, thanks to the combination of having a dedicated account manager to guide us through each step and the speed of processing the account.

Why We Recommend IC Markets

We liked IC Markets for its consistently low spreads and highly competitive commissions. When it comes to platform choice, IC Markets offers cTrader, MetaTrader and TradingView, making it an excellent fit for traders who like to have options. It also stands out for its diverse asset range, covering many stocks and currency pairs. Features like automatic and copy trading are just the cherry on top, making it our top recommendation for Australian traders.

Pros & cons
  • Low commissions on cTrader
  • Fast execution speeds
  • No fees for deposits or withdrawals
  • A high minimum deposit of $200
  • Lacks extensive market analysis content
  • Limited educational content

From our testing, we found IC Markets to be the top choice for cTrader in Australia due to its low trading costs and range of markets.

Our analyst, Ross Collins, tested 20 forex brokers consisting of STP and ECN-style brokers to consider which brokers had the tightest spreads. Based on his findings, IC Markets came out as one of the lowest, with an average of 0.01 pips on EUR/USD, beating the industry average of 0.23.

Ross also highlighted that the broker’s commissions were cheaper, too, based on his tests. They were $3.00 per lot traded on the cTrader platform, again outperforming the industry average of $3.48.

With this in mind, we think the figures speak for themselves. IC Market offers low trading costs, which translates into improved profit margins. Low fees are especially helpful if you like to scalp the markets, where every pip saved is significant.

As cTrader is a multi-asset platform, you can trade any of the 1,700+ markets that IC Markets offers. During our testing, we also found that the broker offers a decent range of markets, covering everything from 61 forex pairs to 24 commodities. However, on cTrader, you cannot trade any of their share CFDs. Instead, you’ll have to use MetaTrader 5, which offers a similar setup and features (including Depth of Markets tools) to cTrader.

Interestingly, IC Markets cTrader is located in London in the LD5 IBX Equinix Data Center, where most liquidity providers are based. This strategic placement is how the broker offers fast execution speeds and tight spreads on cTrader.

We like that IC Markets also offers Level II pricing on its cTrader platform. This platform shows you the available orders for each price level directly from the liquidity provider. With this information, you can better gauge market sentiment without investing in specialist third-party tools.

For example, the cTrader platform comes with the Depth of Market tool, which clearly displays Level II pricing and allows you to execute your trades easily from the tool.

A decent feature we found with IC Markets is that they offer free AutoChartist and Trading Central, two top technical analysis providers.

Both of their services integrate directly within cTrader, making finding new trading opportunities on the platform easy. We think the Autochartist integration is better, as it overlays the analysis over the charts so you can review it in real-time. This feature can certainly help new traders who are stuck for ideas.

Why We Recommend Go Markets

We liked GO Markets as a good cTrader option for its standout features in its selection of liquidity providers, which ensures you’re getting low spreads consistently. The commissions are also some of the lowest you’ll find for an ECN-style broker, which makes trading more cost-effective. We appreciate the diverse range of platforms available, giving traders the flexibility to use cTrader, among other options. The add-on tools and features are excellent, rounding off what is already a compelling package for European traders. Keep in mind that GO Markets offers cTrader only on its Australian (ASIC) entity, so European and other international clients are limited to MetaTrader 4 and MT5 here.

Pros & cons
  • Low commission broker
  • Offers excellent trading tools
  • No deposit or withdrawal fees
  • Limited social trading options
  • Offers less than 50 forex pairs
  • GO Plus+ spreads run wider than IC Markets and Pepperstone, which partly offsets the low commission
Broker Details

One of the most compelling reasons to choose GO Markets is their low cTrader commissions.

The broker charges $2.50 per lot traded on cTrader, which is $0.50 cheaper than other cTrader brokers. Thus, GO Markets has the lowest commissions we’ve found so far. It will help you minimise your trading costs, making the broker a standout option if you trade frequently.

On top of the low commissions, the broker includes a rebate program that pays you a percentage of the spreads based on your trading volume, favouring high-volume traders. To qualify, you must trade at least $10,000,000 notional value per month (100 lots traded), which is rather low if you day trade or scalp in one lot sizes.

When you qualify, we find their rebate program generous, offering up to 30% rebate on all your trading costs (spreads and commissions). By participating in this program, you’ll quickly reduce your overall trading costs and improve your profit margin without doing anything extra.

To trade on the cTrader platform, we had to test the broker using its GO Plus account, which meant we had to pay a small commission ($2.50) and tighter spreads than the Standard account. While testing on cTrader, we found the GO Plus account spread averaging 0.38 pips on EUR/USD, surprisingly higher than the industry average of 0.23 pips. However, accounting for the lower commission costs is still cheaper than most cTrader brokers.

We also found that GO Markets lets you trade all its markets on cTrader, including 49 currency pairs, 1,100+ share CFDs, ten commodities and 16 indices. While testing different cTrader brokers, we were surprised that others limited the number of instruments available on cTrader compared to their other platforms.

For example, we found FxPro to limit its instruments to just forex and major indices, which we think lowers the appeal for traders with multi-asset strategies.

Why We Recommend FxPro

We liked FxPro’s swift execution and high-end trading tools; this broker ticks all the right boxes. The account opening process is streamlined, and the platform performs smoothly, offering rapid execution times that can make a big difference in your trading. It’s not just us singing its praises; FxPro clinched the FX Supplier and CFD FX Provider awards from the Online Personal Wealth Awards 2021.

Pros & cons
  • Top market analysis available
  • Trading Central integrates with cTrader
  • Excellent VPS service to automate on cTrader
  • Limited asset classes
  • Minimum deposit of $100
  • Inactivity fees
Broker Details

With cTrader being more of a niche platform, we found that FxPro offers some of the lowest trading costs on the cTrader platform for UK traders. Especially considering that only a handful of FCA-regulated brokers offer the platform.

We tested the broker’s spreads across major currency pairs and compared them against 15 other brokers to get an industry average. Our tests found that FxPro averaged 0.64 pips on EUR/USD, which, compared to the rest of the industry, is slightly more expensive than the 0.23 pips the industry averaged. However, with FxPro being one of the few offering cTrader, these trading costs are considered low.

The FxPro VIP program will help you reduce your trading costs by up to 30% on both spreads and cTrader commissions and provide you with access to a free VPS. These are great features, but relative to the rest of the industry, the reduction in fees only brings FxPros’ costs in line. Plus, to qualify, you have to deposit $50,000 into your trading account, which may be out of the scope of most traders.

The broker offers a No-Dealing Desk execution, meaning your orders are processed by the broker and sent straight to the liquidity provider for the best pricing and execution speeds. FxPro’s execution speed is also enhanced with trading servers placed in Equinix data centre LD5 in London, maximising your execution speed by being as close to other liquidity provider servers.

In addition to the fast execution speed and decent trading costs, we liked that the broker offers Trading Central, which integrates directly with the cTrader platform. While testing, we could access all of Trading Central’s automated technical analysis directly within our platform, something that other platforms lack. This tool made finding new trade ideas easy and could be helpful for day traders stuck for ideas.

If you want to use cTrader Automate with their cBots, we liked that FxPro offers a fast VPS service, allowing you to automate your trades during all market sessions. The broker charges $30 per month to get access, which is around the average for a VPS, but we found that if you have a Premium account, you can get the service for free.

Which is the best cTrader Broker?

Based on our review, IC Markets is the best cTrader broker, scoring an impressive 89/100. We think the broker’s fast execution speeds and low spreads pair nicely with cTrader’s tools for faster executions. This allows you to take full advantage of the platform’s one-click trading and depth of market tools, which are ideal tools if you are a scalper.

The broker’s average spreads are impressive too, averaging 0.19 pips on the EUR/USD. These spreads rank among the lowest of the cTrader brokers we tested and beat the industry-tested average of 0.27 pips, helping you reduce trading costs.

If you are in the UK, you may be better off trading with FxPro or Pepperstone since the FCA regulates these brokers.

What is the cTrader platform?

cTrader is a multi-asset trading platform that allows you to analyse the markets and execute your trades. The platform provides real-time market data from your broker, advanced charting tools, and customisable indicators to help you analyse price action and trends.

We like that cTrader offers Level 2 pricing, which not many modern-day platforms offer (only MT5 competes). Level 2 pricing is helpful as it lets you see the order books from the liquidity providers and where the bulk of the orders are placed.

This gives you a unique insight into the markets unavailable to traditional non-DMA platforms. For example, you can find supply and demand or potential upcoming support and resistance pricing by seeing where the largest orders are held.

Standout Features of cTrader

  • Clean and modern user interface
  • Level 2 pricing
  • Fast trading platform software performance
  • Automated trading tools
  • Copy trading tools
  • 70+ technical indicators and charting tools

What Are The Benefits Of The cTrader Platform?

Most of the benefits from cTrader come through its advanced charting, which offers a broader range of timeframes, indicators, and charting tools compared to other platforms like MetaTrader 4. Below, we’ve highlighted some pros and cons of using cTrader.

  • Excellent user interface
  • Advanced charting tools
  • Fast software performance
  • Level 2 (Direct Market Access) tools
  • Offers built-in copy and algo trading
  • Not available on all brokers
  • The community is not as large compared with MetaTrader 4
  • Can’t use Expert Advisors with cTrader

What Are The Cons Of Using cTrader?

The cons of using cTrader is the lack of community behind the platform, meaning you won’t find the most extensive range of supported trading tools or indicators.

This means you’ll have to program your own tools and indicators, while other platforms like MetaTrader 4 have access to hundreds of thousands of supported tools and indicators via its marketplace.

What Are The Commission Costs With cTrader?

The standard commission cost with cTrader is $3.00 per lot, which works out as $6.00 per lot round-trip. We think this is quite reasonable, as it is a bit cheaper than you might find on other platforms where commissions can hover around the $3.50 per lot mark.

What’s interesting is that some brokers offer the option to use cTrader without any commission at all. Instead, these accounts come with wider spreads.

This opens up the platform to more traders, as previously cTrader was known as a commission-only platform, which could be a turn-off for traders who prefer not to pay commissions.

What is cTrader’s Execution Speed?

cTrader’s execution speed is fast, promising sub-one-second execution times and developing their platform to optimise speed.

What we really like about cTrader is how it connects you directly to their data servers through a proxy located in major financial centres, including Tokyo, London, and New York.

The reason why this is so effective is that these data centres are right next to the major liquidity providers. Being so close to the source of market liquidity optimises the execution speed even further.

Can You Automate With cTrader?

cTrader has a special section called “cTrader Automate” and works similarly to MetaTrader 4. It uses cBots, which you can program to follow your specific trading strategy.

The cBots can be customised with any strategy, rule, or indicator and will analyse the markets and execute trades based on your rules. Plus, you can even include your risk management strategies within these bots, letting the cBot take complete control over your strategy.

We think the major advantage cTrader has over other platforms is that it is known for its speed, giving your cBots more resources and power to operate reliably. It’s important to note that this is only available on the platform’s desktop version.

Can you do algorithmic trading with cTrader?

Yes, cTrader allows for automated trading, and we consider it one of the best automated trading platforms.

The cBots used to automate your trades are programmed with C#, a programming language with universal properties. This allows you to develop your own algorithm that can execute trades and self-optimise based on its performance.

Plus, you can route your trades through cTrader’s proxy to the data centres in London, New York and Tokyo, which is what most algo strategies need for stable latency.

Can You Copy Trader With cTrader?

cTrader allows you to copy trade with its cTrader Copy section, built into the platform, allowing you to easily copy trading strategies implemented by other cTrader users.

We like how cTrader has made copy trading so simple with its one-click Copy trading and all-in-one graph overview of the strategy. These graphs show key performance metrics like Return on Investment and even financial details like how much money the copy trader and other investors have put in.

This provides social proof of the strategy’s effectiveness; only a few providers share this information with you.

cTrader vs. MetaTrader: What are the differences?

The main difference betweencTrader vs MT4 is that cTrader is a multi-asset trading platform with direct market access. This means that cTrader lets you trade shares and other assets unavailable on the MetaTrader 4 platform.

In addition to offering more assets, cTrader has more out-of-the-box features, including more chart types, timeframes and indicators, as demonstrated in the table below.

So, by default, cTrader has better features; however, cTrader lacks a community that drives the platform’s development, which is where MetaTrader 4 shines.

However, if you like the MetaTrader platform but want the functionality of cTrader, the MT5 offers the exact same features as cTrader with the familiarity of the MT4 platform.

How can I start using cTrader?

Objects and indicators are easy to plot, modify and move, and our studies automatically adjust to your chart’s timeframe and zoom level. The platform offers a full range of orders to maximise your trading options. Market orders, limit orders, stop orders, and other rare order types, such as market-range orders, are available to help you make smarter trading choices.

3. Automated Trading: Support for algorithmic trading, and backtesting capabilities.

Developed in C#, the cAlgo allows trading with robots that can be traded or developed. cTrader allows full back-testing to simulate algorithms based on past market movements. The cTrader website also offers bots to download. Traders can view how many have been downloaded and test them on the market. Indicators can also be downloaded from the cTrader website to help chart and spot trends. This is the ideal forex trading platform tool.

cTrader and the cAlgo algorithmic platform run as separate apps but share account state and chart templates, so manual and automated trading run from the same workspace. The platforms share chart templates and accounts (the same account can log in to both), and one is always easily accessible from the other.

Traders using the algorithmic trading platform cAlgo can create custom indicators for manual or automated trading. Developers can specify any parameters and visual styles for the indicators.

4. Mobile Trading: Mobile app availability, features, compatibility.

Most of the time, timing is everything. The success of your trade will depend on how fast you can fill your order, and with cTrader, orders are filled in just milliseconds. cTrader also supports simultaneous order processing, so if you’re entering several trades at once, there’s no order queue. Simple, smart, fast.

One-click and double-click trading are available from the top of every chart. With cTrader’s lightning-fast execution speeds, this gives you the fastest possible market entry option.

5. API Integration: Options for API integration, documentation.

Proxy connection settings allow for easy connectivity from any location, bypassing corporate or public firewalls, which can often disrupt the connection to trading platform servers and other services.

6. Trading Community: Social trading features, community engagement.

FAQs

How can I connect my broker account to cTrader?
To connect your broker account with cTrader, you’ll need a cTID, the cTrader username required for its platform. If this is your first account, your broker will automatically generate a new cTID and link them together, and then your account will appear on cTrader. If you are switching from another broker, you must contact your new broker to link your current cTID and new broker accounts together to begin trading on the forex market.
Is cTrader free?
cTrader is one of the best free forex trading platforms available directly through your brokerage. It offers a complete range of tools, including advanced charting and algo tools, which other advanced platforms charge for. cTrader can be found in most CFD Brokers and is available for both mobile (Android and iOS) and web (Windows and Mac).
Is cTrader beginner-friendly?
cTrader is beginner-friendly thanks to its clean trading interface that is easy to use and clutter-free, making navigation and executing trades on the platform simple. Some of the best brokers for beginners offer a free demo account for you to experience the cTrader platform and its tools in a risk-free environment.
Is cTrader better than MetaTrader 4?
cTrader is a better platform than MetaTrader 4 if you want access to more advanced features like direct market access with level 2 pricing or want to trade stocks. Apart from that, cTrader and MetaTrader 4 have virtually the same features; cTrader just has a better interface and is updated consistently by the developer. cTrader caters to more experienced traders with its extensive analysis tools, pro-like trading environment and user-friendly interface.
What are the best cTrader alternatives?
The best alternate trading platforms to cTrader include TradingView and MetaTrader 4 or 5. TradingView has one of the best charting packages available, with thousands of free indicators. You can also use MetaTrader 4 or 5, both of which provide solid trading experiences with the ability to automate your trades and use custom indicators.
Can I copy trade with cTrader?
cTrader has its own copy trading section of the platform called “cTrader Copy”; this allows you to copy the trades of another cTrader user automatically. Using the copy trading tool from cTrader does not incur additional fees; you’ll pay the same commission and spread as if you were placing the trades.
Can you use expert Advisors with cTrader?
Expert Advisors are specific to MetaTrader platforms and cannot be used on cTrader. However, cTrader has its own trading robots called cBots, which offer the same features as the EAs but are coded in C# instead of MQL4/5.
