Why a low spread matters for frequent traders

A low spread matters because you pay it on every trade, so its cost grows with how often you trade. If you scalp or day trade, our scalping guide covers how spread costs fit the strategy. TabTrade also states its 0.03-pip spread produces a one-lot round-turn spread cost of US$0.30. A raw or ECN-style account quotes a narrower spread and charges a separate commission, and a standard account builds the cost into a wider spread with no commission, so your all-in cost is the spread plus any commission.

All five brokers on this page also appear among the 18 brokers in our CFD brokers comparison, so if you want a low-spread CFD broker as well, that page compares the wider field.

Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) said on 12 July 2024: “Forex trading, except those that are carried out with banks licensed by BNM, is illegal!” The quote comes from BNM’s statement of 12 July 2024. The five brokers on this page each take Malaysian residents through companies licensed outside Malaysia, not by Malaysian regulators.

FAQs

Which broker on this page publishes the lowest average EUR/USD spread?
TabTrade publishes the lowest average EUR/USD spread on the page: 0.03 pips on its Edge account. It states the source and period for that figure, with pricing from Datalyst reflecting one month of data for April 2026 only, correct as of May 2026, and it also states a one-lot round-turn spread cost of US$0.30. IC Markets, MultiBank Group, and Global Prime each publish 0.1 pips, and Purple Trading publishes 0.3 pips. If the lowest published average is your priority, I would start with TabTrade.
How is the list of five brokers ordered?
We put brokers that state how and when they measured their average first, then order by the published average EUR/USD raw spread, lowest first, and break ties with our published global score. TabTrade is the only one of the five that states its source and period, and its 0.03 pips is also the lowest average published on the page. IC Markets, MultiBank Group, and Global Prime each publish 0.1 pips and follow in score order, with Purple Trading publishing 0.3 pips.
What is a raw spread account, and what does zero spread mean?
A raw or ECN-style account quotes a narrower spread and charges a separate commission, while a standard account builds the cost into a wider spread with no commission. A "zero" spread is a "from" figure, the minimum quote the broker lists, not the typical or average spread. Global Prime lists Raw spreads from 0.0 pips, while the average it publishes for EUR/USD is 0.1 pips. The all-in cost of a trade is the spread plus any commission, so compare that total across account types before you judge any headline spread.
Does a raw spread account always cost less than a standard account?
No. A raw account costs less only if its commission is smaller than the spread you save against a standard account. MultiBank Group lists 0.1 pips on its ECN account against 0.8 pips on Pro and 1.5 pips on Standard, and Purple Trading lists 0.3 pips on RAW against 1.3 pips on Standard, while IC Markets charges $3.50 per lot per side, as IC Markets prints it, on its Raw Spread account. I would compare the spread plus commission at your usual trade size before choosing.
Will I pay the published average spread on every trade?
No. A published average is the broker's own figure, and the spread on any single trade can be wider or narrower than the average. In my view, the published number is a comparison point between brokers and accounts rather than a promise for each trade, so check the live spread before you trade. None of the five averages on this page is our measurement.
Do low spreads matter more if I scalp?
Yes. The spread is paid on every trade, so its total cost grows with the number of trades you place, and that matters most to scalpers and day traders. TabTrade states a one-lot round-turn spread cost of US$0.30 at 0.03 pips, and that cost recurs on every trade, so the more round turns you place, the more times you pay it. That recurrence is why I would put the published average at the centre of any scalping decision.
