The session clock on this page shows each trading session's local hours, the same hours in GMT, and, once it loads in the browser, the hours in your own time zone.
Forex market hours clock
| Session | Local market hours | In GMT | Overlap |
|---|---|---|---|
| Sydney | 07:00 to 16:00 AEST | 21:00 to 06:00 | |
| Tokyo | 09:00 to 18:00 JST | 00:00 to 09:00 | |
| London | 08:00 to 17:00 GMT | 08:00 to 17:00 | London plus New York |
| New York | 08:00 to 17:00 EST | 13:00 to 22:00 | London plus New York |
London and New York overlap from 13:00 to 17:00 GMT.
Hours are each centre's own market hours, converted at its standard offset from UTC. London and New York each move one hour earlier in GMT while daylight saving is in force; the clock applies that shift and converts to your own time zone. Sessions run Monday to Friday in each centre.
When the forex market opens and closes in Malaysia
The forex market opens in Malaysia early on Monday morning and closes early on Saturday morning, MYT. Each broker states the week against its own clock, so the exact minute depends on your broker. FOREX.com states “From 9:00pm UTC Sunday through 9:00pm UTC on Friday” (forex.com, read 29 September 2026), which converts to 05:00 Monday to 05:00 Saturday MYT in every season. Across five brokers on our Malaysian list (FOREX.com, Pepperstone, OANDA, TabTrade, and IG Group), the stated week opens between 04:00 and 06:05 MYT on Monday and closes between 04:55 and 06:00 MYT on Saturday, depending on the broker and the time of year.
Each trading session in Malaysian time
Each trading session keeps its own centre’s business day, so its slot on the Malaysian clock holds for months at a time. Sydney trades 05:00 to 14:00 MYT, or 04:00 to 13:00 MYT while Sydney is on daylight time. Tokyo trades 08:00 to 17:00 MYT all year. London trades 16:00 to 01:00 MYT the next day, or 15:00 to 00:00 MYT while London is on British Summer Time. New York trades 21:00 to 06:00 MYT the next day, or 20:00 to 05:00 MYT while New York is on daylight time.
| Centre | Local hours | Malaysia time (MYT, UTC+8) |
|---|---|---|
| Sydney | 07:00 to 16:00 AEST | 05:00 to 14:00 |
| Tokyo | 09:00 to 18:00 JST | 08:00 to 17:00 |
| London | 08:00 to 17:00 GMT | 16:00 to 01:00 (next day) |
| New York | 08:00 to 17:00 EST | 21:00 to 06:00 (next day) |
The London session in Malaysian time
The London session runs 16:00 to 01:00 MYT, crossing midnight into the next day, while London is on GMT. From the last Sunday of March to the last Sunday of October, London moves to British Summer Time, and the session starts one hour earlier on your clock, at 15:00, and closes at midnight, 00:00 MYT. If you trade the Malaysian evening, this session fills most of it, and I would treat the March and October switch dates as diary entries, because a 16:00 start becomes a 15:00 start when London’s clock moves.
The New York session in Malaysian time
The New York session runs 21:00 to 06:00 MYT, finishing the next morning, while New York is on Eastern Standard Time. From the second Sunday of March to the first Sunday of November, New York moves to daylight time, and the session runs one hour earlier on your clock: 20:00 to 05:00 MYT. This session covers the Malaysian night and early morning, so if you trade late, it is your window. I would note the November date, because the session moves back an hour then, and a routine built around 20:00 has to shift to 21:00.
The Sydney and Tokyo sessions in Malaysian time
The Asian sessions sit inside the Malaysian morning and afternoon. Sydney trades 05:00 to 14:00 MYT, and from the first Sunday of October to the first Sunday of April, while Sydney is on daylight time, it runs one hour earlier on your clock: 04:00 to 13:00 MYT. Tokyo trades 09:00 to 18:00 Japan Standard Time, which is 08:00 to 17:00 MYT with no change through the year, because Tokyo keeps no daylight saving. If you trade the Malaysian morning and afternoon, Sydney and Tokyo are the sessions that cover them, and I would use Tokyo’s fixed hours as your anchor, because they never move.
When London and New York overlap on the Malaysian clock
On the Malaysian clock, the London and New York overlap runs 21:00 to 01:00 MYT, four hours, when both cities are on standard time, and 20:00 to 00:00 MYT when both are on summer time. Our sessions dataset names this overlap the highest-volume window of the trading day. In my view it is the window worth building a routine around, because it sits in the Malaysian evening and ends by 01:00 MYT at the latest. If you have only a few hours to give the market, I would give them here. Both cities change their clocks, though, so these hours move through the year.
How clock changes move the sessions for Malaysian traders
Malaysia keeps Malaysia Time, UTC+8, all year, with no daylight saving, so your clock never changes. London, New York, and Sydney do change their clocks, and each change moves that city’s session by one hour on the Malaysian clock. For a few weeks in March and again from late October to early November, New York is on daylight time while London is still on GMT, because the US moves its clocks forward first in March and back last in the autumn. In both windows the overlap runs 20:00 to 01:00 MYT, five hours, one hour longer than the usual four. I would mark those weeks in your calendar.

What is the best time to trade forex in Malaysia?
The best time to trade forex in Malaysia is the London and New York overlap, which runs 21:00 to 01:00 MYT when both cities are on standard time and 20:00 to 00:00 MYT when both are on summer time. Our sessions dataset names this the highest-volume window of the trading day. It is the one stretch of the day when both the London and the New York sessions are open, and in my opinion that is what makes it the best time to trade. If you are choosing a broker around these hours, our list of brokers that take Malaysian residents sets out your options.
In a statement dated 12 July 2024, Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) said: “Forex trading, except those that are carried out with banks licensed by BNM, is illegal!” The brokers on our Malaysian list take Malaysian residents through companies licensed outside Malaysia, not by Malaysian regulators. You can read BNM’s statement of 12 July 2024 in full.
